MAGELLAN PARTNER

PJM RFID tunnel with cooler box

Magellan's PJM RFID offers a unique opportunity to implement an RFID solution for the demands of blood tracking. PJM RFID enables tracking of blood and blood product units individually or when packed together in tubs or boxes by implementation of our full range and size of PJM RFID readers. Blood and blood products have no effect on the ability of PJM RFID to be read rapidly and reliably.

How PJM RFID benefits transfusion medicine

Increased patient safety

  • High level automated verification reduces potential for blood handling errors
  • Ensure recipients receive the right unit, every time

Complete audit trail of transfusion units

  • Provides an automatic audit trail of blood units as they move from the central distribution centre, to the laboratory and remote fridges, and eventually to the recipient
  • No manual counting and verification required
  • PJM NEway shelving reads any addition and removal of tagged units and records any changes on the system log – linked with your LIMS

Increased efficiency of your supply chain

  • Know where blood units are at each stage of the supply chain
  • Alerts issued when stock is due to expire or has been out of a controlled environment for too long

Getting started with PJM RFID

Retrofit current storage facilities

PJM NEway unique 3 dimensional shelving is retrofitted into an existing blood fridge or storage facility. PJM tunnel readers can also be utlised to verify large numbers of tagged blood units. These units can be prepared for transport in a temperature controlled box and put through a tunnel reader. Regardless of their orientation inside the box, Magellan's PJM technology allows each unit to be recorded almost instantaneously.

Apply RFID labels to units

At any stage of the life of the blood unit adhesive labels, that are embedded with an RFID tag, can be attached to blood bags. These tags are capable of holding up to 8kb of information, enabling data to be directly written to the blood unit. The shelving constantly reads the presence of the tagged blood bags and  tracks when a unit is removed or added.

Complete real time tracking procedure

The 3D field of the PJM NEway shelving allows all the tagged items to be read, regardless of their orientation. The system has the ability to alert users when certain units are close to expiry or have been out of a controlled environment for and unsafe time. There is visual representation of each unit present in real time, allowing for quicky and easy verification.
